Hondo Dingle* won the 2006 €25,000 Shelbourne 575 Stake in the outstanding time of 31.26, the Pop Gun International 600 at Thurles, and the 2007 Champion Stakes Consolation over 550 yards at Shelbourne Park. He ran second in the 2006 Hove & Brighton Courage Olympic and the 2006 Limerick Irish Cambridgeshire Open. He owns track records at Limerick over 550 yards, 29.32; and 700 yards, 38.61; Irish national records over those distances.
His sire, PA’s Hondo Black, won the 2002 Southland Sprint Derby. Though he didn’t appear destined for a stud career in the U.S., his pedigree attracted the attention of leading Irish studmaster Michael Dunne of Frightful Flash Kennel. Not only did PA’s Hondo Black have the early pace that Irish breeders require, but elements in his breeding suggested he’d be a tremendous cross for Irish bitches. He knew that the great EJ's Douglas, while a disappointment here at stud, was successful in Australia based on a limited number of breedings. Considering how much Aussie blood the Irish have now, an EJ's Douglas son made a lot of sense. Secondly, his damline via Hondo Checkers carries a double cross of the spectacular combination of Tell You Why*, Ample Time, and the superb brood She's A Record. If you don't recognize that recipe for success, refamiliarize yourself with the pedigrees of Rooster Cogburn, Highway Robber, and America’s greatest gift to Ireland, Sand Man*. Renamed Hondo Black*, he has gone on to a very respectable stud career in Ireland. His son Farloe Black is a rising young superstar, recently setting a 550 yard track record at Lifford in 29.39 and winning the 2007 Irish Derby Consolation at Shelbourne Park in 29.64.
Hondo Dingle’s dam Farloe Dingle was one of the greatest producers of this decade in Ireland. She produced Stake and Open class winners by six different sires. In addition to Hondo Dingle, she produced the great Mineola Farloe, one of the great Irish sprinters of recent years. He won the 2005 Group1 Shelbourne Park Easter Cup, the 2006 Shelbourne Tote Gold Cup, the 2004 Irish Derby Consolation, and twice ran second to the legendary Westmead Hawk in the final of the English Derby. She also produced stake winners Farloe Hack and Farloe Brazil, as well as a number of stake finalists. 29 of her 43 offspring (68%) ran in Stake or Feature races. She descends from the fine dam Glenroe Bess, familiar to American breeders as the dam of the great I’m Slippy, sire of Fortress*.
What attracted us to Hondo Dingle was his racing style which can best be described as that rare aptitude of an early-speed stayer. His speed to the first turn was exceeded only by the very best sprinters in Ireland, and despite the outside lure, he ran as tight a rail as you’ll see overseas. Over 525 yards he was not quite a match for them, but over 550 or 575 yards he was one of the elite dogs in the country. At 600 yards and beyond he was a match for Ireland’s best stayers. He should be perfectly suited for the demanding conditions of American courses where early speed is important, but strength in the stretch is essential.
Hondo Dingle’s pedigree and racing style suggest that he will cross especially well with daughters of Kiowa Sweet Trey and other Oswald Cobblepot descendants, but he also appears suited for a wide variety of American bitches, including those whose own racing style features good early speed.

"Hondo Dingle was the most genuine and honest dog i ever put a lead on .whenever you put him in the boxes you knew he was going to give 110% .That, combined with his exceptional pace and track craft, made him a joy to train."
